Fernweh Food Company is focused on bringing a few new concepts to the adventure foods market:
Low Impact Packaging.
Our adventure foods are sold in 100% compostable packaging or in Omnidegradable Packaging. Omnidegradable packaging is made of materials that decompose wherever there are naturally-occurring microbes, which means they can degrade almost anywhere, and they decompose much quicker than traditional plastic packaging. We like the Omnidegradable packaging because you can cook in the pouch too! We use PURE Labels for our 100% compostable/recyclable labels, made by Elevate Packaging. We love our planet and know that each sustainable packaging choice we make matters!
Bulk Dehydrated Foods.
We are excited to offer some of our dehydrated meals in bulk. This means less packaging, more yum, and a bit of a discount for you too! Right now we are offering our Mushroom Pot Pie and our Southwest Stew in our 100% compostable bulk bags which contain 5 portions. This is a great option for larger groups and folx who like to cook in their own containers, or those who are looking to use less packaging.
I’m Ashley Lance, the owner and founder of Fernweh Food Company. Originally a side hustle, Fernweh Food Company has turned into a dream realized: sharing the food I love with people who love to adventure.
I began making my own food in 2015 for bike tours and backpacking trips because I value knowing what I'm putting into my body. On these adventures, I found that my fellow travelers were eager to try what I had made. With some encouragement from friends and my partner, I decided to give this side hustle a chance to be the real deal.
Since I began adventuring, I have found the abundance of packaging and garbage piling up at trailhead trash cans and out in the wilderness to be disheartening. In an effort to be a part of the solution, I want to make this company as earth-conscious as I can. Taking a cue from the three R's, Fernweh Food Co. is doing its part to reduce the amount of single use plastics going into the wild by utilizing packaging that is 100% Omnidegradable or compostable. We lessen our carbon footprint by only making vegan / plant-based meals.
I am excited to bring a mix of passion, experience, and a taste for adventure into this exciting endeavor. Thank you for supporting this crazy dream to bring damn delicious meals in low-impact packaging to the adventurer in all of us!
