Wildwood Wisdom
Nurturing Our Wild and Precious Lives
Wildwood Wisdom offers outdoor life coaching, nature therapy, forest bathing, and business services for outdoor therapy businesses. Research confirms that sustained, intentional contact
with nature benefits humans through: improved sense of wellbeing, lower instances of stress-related illness, improved memory and cognitive flexibility and expansion of creativity and problem-solving.
In nature therapy, the forest is the therapist and the guide opens the doors. People are gently guided through a clearly defined sequence of invitations to slow down, allow the senses to open, and experience the environment to deepen a reciprocal relationship between participants and the forest. This supports the wholeness and well-being of both.
A wildwood is an uncultivated forest that has been allowed to grow naturally. I have, over the course of my life, allowed my own path to unfold in natural ways that at times may seem wildly uncultivated, but in the rearview mirror were ways in which my weird and wonderful heart could flourish in the world.
After decades of diverse careers from aerial photographer to instructor at Zoo Atlanta and instructional technology specialist at a grass-roots charter school, I earned an M.Div. from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology where my studies focused on progressive and liberation theologies. While at Candler I engaged in deep study of pastoral counseling, contemplative practices, constructivist pedagogy and the intersection of faith and justice.
Since 2008, I’ve led hundreds of hours of in-person and online spiritual practices in forests, parks, schools, pubs, Second Life, Livestream.com, Zoom and on Facebook.
I’m currently living in The Netherlands where I moved with my wife six years ago.
The golden thread running through my life’s journey is a persistent calling to find, as Frederick Buechner describes, the place where my deep gladness meets the world’s deep hunger. I hope that this offering will be one in which we can flourish and discern together how best to live into that fiercely tender calling.
